The economy of El Salvador is based on the service sector, its industry and agriculture. The country’s main agricultural products are coffee, maize, beans, sugarcane, milk, poultry meat and eggs, and its exports chiefly consist of coffee, sugar, corn flour, molasses, cheese, honey and tuna fish. As for maize cultivation, El Salvador shows a high adoption rate of maize hybrids, and Salvadorian farmers plant the maize hybrid seeds developed by CENTA (National Center for Agricultural, Livestock and Forestry Technology "Enrique Álvarez Córdova” CENTA-CIMMYT.
